Bertha Zora Ruggles

Ruggles, Bertha Zora age 92, of Tiverton passed away September 1, 2022 in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Erma Outhouse. Bertha was a former school teacher, having taught for 16 years, in Pembrooke, Yarmouth Co, Digby and at Islands Consolidated School, Freeport. She was President of the Tiverton Super Senior Club since 1992, organist and choir director for both the Tiverton Christian Church, the Tiverton Baptist Church, and organist and pianist for any Island event. She taught the Lady’s Sunday School Class at the Tiverton Christian Church, was President of the Islands Historical Society and member since its inception. Canadian Director of the Outhouse Family Historical Society, one of the founding members of the Society of the Descendants of Robert and Sarah Outhouse and officer of organization for most of its existence. She was also Community representative for the Senior’s Secretariat and Community links. She volunteered as a cook at Johnson Christian Park in South Range. When Bertha’s husband, Robert was alive, they travelled throughout North America with the Habitat for Humanity program. She is survived by her sons Clair E. Ruggles, Mark I. (Mary) Ruggles, grandchildren Benjamin, Timothy, Daniel, Joseph , Michelle and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and brother Clifton Outhouse. Visitation will be 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday, Sept 8 from the Tiverton Church of Christ and from where funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, Sept. 9. Mr. Lou Outhouse will officiate with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Tiverton. Donations in memory can be made to the Tiverton Church of Christ or to the charity of your choice.
