Donna was born in South Range, Nova Scotia, to the late Forest and Gertrude (Sabean) Hill.
She graduated from the Victoria General School of Nursing in 1968, keeping in touch with her classmates ever since. She worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, culminating in 24 years at the IWK Children's Hospital while also earning her BSc in nursing from St. Francis Xavier University.
Donna is survived by her husband, Michael Baxter, sons Michael (Debbie) LeBlanc, Chris LeBlanc, David (Genevieve) LeBlanc, Tim Baxter, Joey (Tammy) Baxter, sisters Arlene MacKichan, Vi Parnell, sister-in-law Dayle Baxter-Ashby, grandchildren Arabella, Alessandra, Bryce, Hannah, Paige and several nieces and nephews.
Donna is predeceased by her beloved daughter Janelle, first husband Roger LeBlanc, brother Clarence (Verna) Hill, and sister Maizie (Eldred) Marshall.
Donna enjoyed the ocean, collecting beach glass, finding antiques and decorating the shanty. She volunteered for the IWK Telethon and other charities. Her kindness, compassion and generous spirit were an inspiration to so many, especially the children at the IWK. Her smile and laugh brought joy to us all and she will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sameh Hassan of Mount Hope Hospital in Halifax, the VON and home-care nurses and the wonderful staff of Tideview Terrace in Digby.
Donna's memorial service will be held at the United Baptist Church of Digby, on Thursday the 28th of October at 11 am. Provincial restrictions require all attendees to wear masks and show proof of full vaccination with a matching ID. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parkinson's Society of Nova Scotia, IWK Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society in her name.
