It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving Aunt Joan, who passed away peacefully with her loving family holding her hands on August 24th, 2025, at Digby General Hospital.
Born in Plympton Station on August 19th, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Catherine Amero.
Aunt Joan worked in hospitality services, working at the Pines, Captain’s Cabin and at the Children’s Training Centre. But her favorite position and the one she excelled most at was where her true heart and calling was, being a homemaker.
Aunt Joan had the biggest heart and was always so welcoming. She loved to bake and was well known for her delicious baked goods. She always had treats and a hot cup of tea for anyone who visited. She even loved to distribute her treats, even these later years if it wasn’t “homemade”. She was often taking treats to the pharmacy, the staff at the bank, hospital staff, she had such a kind and giving heart.
She is survived by her loving husband, Emdon “Junie” Stark Jr.; niece and nephew who she lovingly referred to as her other daughter and son, Lisa (Mercer) and Bruce Sibbley, sister, Linda “Lennie” Murphy (Doug Hawkins) many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her precious daughter, Kathy, who she couldn’t wait to be reunited with; sister, Edna and twin brothers Floyd and Lloyd.
Special thanks to niece, Cheryl O’Neil; her cousins, Frances Amero and Karen Sullivan, VON, also to the doctors and staff at Yarmouth Regional and Digby General Hospital. Special mention to Stephanie Marshall for her compassion and care for Aunt Joan and Uncle Junie as well
Visitation will be held Monday September 1st at 1:00 pm, with funeral to follow at 2:00pm both at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Digby.
