In his early years, Larry enjoyed working on the nearby beaches, clam digging alongside his father and brother “Cookie.” Over the years, he worked as a fish cutter at fish plants in Clare and on Digby Neck.
Larry embraced the country boy life — doing burnouts to entertain the neighborhood kids, demolition derbies on Plympton Lake in the winter, and “jacking a field” with his wife and grandmother on their way home from bingo. He loved a house full of people, late-night card games and a feed of pork chops at midnight. His greatest passions were deer hunting and trout fishing, especially when shared with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his sons, Phillip (Karen) Amero of Smiths Cove, and Jamie (Corinne) Thibodeau of Calgary; stepdaughter, Leona Thibeault of Hillgrove; brother, Bradford “Cookie” Amero of Doucetteville; sister Marilyn Amero of Plympton; grandchildren, Jaxson, Jaggar, Ivan, Amber, Christian, Trenton, and Tayah; and great-granddaughter Azlyn.
He was predeceased by his wife, Della and his twin brother, Terry.
Larry’s biggest hobby was building birdhouses in his cherished “Antler Lodge,” where he proudly displayed his massive collection of deer antlers and pictures.
As per Larry’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, in his memory, grab a can of Pepsi and go for a drive down some back roads to look for deer, or cast a line in your favorite fishing spot.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the friends and family who visited and called Larry over the last couple of years. He looked forward to each and every visit and phone call. A special thank you is extended to Karen Sullivan and her family.
