Pryde, Lawrence (Sonny) Edward, age 83 of Bridgetown passed away in Mountain Lea Lodge with his family by his side. Born in Bridgewater, NS he was the only child of the late Walter James and Elise (Keizer) Pryde.
Sonny lived his whole life in Nova Scotia. He had fond memories of working at CKBW radio station in Bridgewater. Sonny was drafted out of high school hockey to the Boston Bruins farm team, while there he was recruited to the RCMP and decided that was the career he wanted to pursue. Sonny worked as an engineer in the marine division, was posted to the RCMP Department in Bridgewater and then posted to the Cole Harbour Department, he went on to the Migratory Bird division at headquarters in Halifax before finally being posted to the detachment in Digby where he retired after 30 years. Sonny moved back to Bridgewater to work for National Sea but his fondness for Digby had him return.
Sonny’s love of hockey never stopped, he loved passing his skills to the young men he coached over the years. He was known for his skill of barbecuing in any weather. Sonny had a witty sense of humor, quick with a comeback. You knew Sonny liked you if he teased you; he was born to tease and kept his sense of humor to the very end. Of all Sonny’s accomplishments, the most important thing in his life were his wife and family.
Sonny is survived by the love of his life Marilyn Ruth (Dennis) Pryde; daughter, Tina Marie Pryde (Tony Hall); son, Darren Edward (Cheryl) Pryde; nieces, Beverly (Owen) Heisler, Diane (Bryan) MacDonald, Sandra (Trevor) Williams; nephews, Brian (Lea), Joel (Lanna), Walter (Jean) Doue, David (Patricia) Pryde (Doue); grandson, Caleb James (Lacey) Pryde and their children, Nevaeh, Bryonna, Daevon, Taylor, Sieana and Chayce; Bobi-Jo Marie LeBlanc (Brett Silver) and their children, Gabryle and Abygail; brothers in law, Mervyn (Irene) Dennis and their children Murray, Mike and Cathy; Mark (Annette) Dennis and their children, Alyre, Alex and Amber; sisters in law, Maxine (Keith) Hipson and their children, Jeffrey, Jason, Jonathan and Jana; Marjorie Dennis and her children, Michelle and Kristyn.
