It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Lewis on July 12, 2025, at The Meadows at the age of 97. Born in Barrington, Marion was a much-loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Marion began her working life quite young, becoming a telegraph operator in Weymouth during the war at the age of 17. This is where she met her husband, Gifford. After the death of her husband, Marion began work at the Weymouth school cafeteria in 1980, until her retirement in 1994. She found much happiness at the Sebim Beach cottage, one of her favorite places to spend time with her family. A lover of nature, Marion especially adored cardinals, enjoyed tending her flowers planted outside, and at the Meadows watching the deer, Canada geese and ducks outside her window.
Marion was a long-time member of the Church of Christ and thoroughly enjoyed the Stitch and Chatter group and the ladies involved. Marion was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and a familiar face at the summer teas in Weymouth. She loved to watch movies, her favorite being Dr. Zhivago. She would have told you to watch it sometime! Marion was a lifetime follower of the Royal Family, recently getting up at 5am to watch the Queen’s funeral. A woman of many talents, she loved sewing, knitting, and made the best tea biscuits ever. She was an excellent artist and members of her family are proud owners of her original artwork. Her continued use of her iPad at the age of 97 kept her connected to the outside world and allowed family and friends to message and send pictures, which she absolutely loved. Marion cherished time spent with her family above all else. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. Marion was a strong, independent woman. Not one to show much emotion, but she sure did enjoy a good laugh.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Bennett (Tom) and Laurie Faulkner (Barry); daughter in law, Coleen Lewis as well as her four grandsons: Peter Lewis, Chris Lewis, Chad Stewart, Jonathan Stewart and 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly.
Aside from her parents, Marion is predeceased by her husband Gifford Lewis and their son Patrick Lewis, as well as her sister Frances Swim.
The family would like to thank her Home Care Workers who made it possible for her to remain at home until five years ago. Her care was passed on to the incredible staff at The Meadows. Her life was certainly enriched by everyone who touched her life while in their care. From day one to her last days, she had an extended family to whom we will be forever grateful.
Donations in memory of Marion may be made to The Meadows or a charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. A graveside service will take place in the Weymouth Church of Christ Cemetery on August 2nd at 2pm, followed by a reception at the St. Joseph’s Hall on Weymouth Falls Road, behind the St. Joseph’s Church.
