Mary Ellen Burnham Amero

Amero. ( Burnham) Mary Ellen, B.Sc.N, R.N. , 59, of Digby passed away January 19, 2011 with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Digby, she was the youngest daughter of the late Vi (Barnes) and Harry Burnham. Mary Ellen graduated from DRHS and from Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1971. In 2000, she graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a B.Sc.N. Her nursing career spanned 40 years working at the Infirmary, Victoria General Hospital and mostly at Digby General Hospital Initating the first Heart failure Clinic in SWNDHA in 2000. Mary Ellen was a life long member of the Digby Baptist Church, former Girl Guide leader, figure skating Mom, and member of the Ladies Tuesday Night Bridge Club. She enjoyed travelling , especially backpacking Europe with her husband. She was an avid walker and enjoyed doing crewel needle work. Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Larry, daughter Ashley (Lorne), Lequille, Annapolis Co.; brother Michael (Janice), Houston, Tx. And Eleanor (Hugh) Card, nieces Wendy Carter, Amber Harnish (Andy) both of Digby, Katie Card, nephews Kenny Carter (Jennifer) of Hillgrove, Digby Co.; Aaron Card and Freddy Burnham, Houston; great nephews Nathan, Justin, Ryan, Dylan, Cameron, Carter, and great niece Sarah, mother-in-law Alice (Surette) Amero, Dartmouth; Evie (Greg) PEI; Dawn (Tim) Dartmouth, Kenny (Pam), Mitch(Sandra) both of Medicine Hat, Patrick (Joanne) Digby, several other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Linda Carter. Visitation will be 7-9pm Tuesday January 25th from Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch St. Digby (245-2525) . A Celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held 11am Wednesday January 26th from the Digby United Baptist Church.Rev. Donald Robertson will officiate with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Digby. Donations in memory can be made to the Linda Carter Scholarship Fund, Digby United Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
