

Charlton, M. Shirley -- Mildred 'Shirley' Charlton, 77, of Bear River passed away peacefully in the presence of family Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Bear River in 1934, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mildred (Dukeshire) Wamboldt. She worked as a telephone switchboard operator and was wife, homemaker, and mother of four children. She was a longtime member of Hillsburgh United Church in Bear River where she was an active member of the United Church Women until recently. She was well known for her knitting and was famous for her knitted wool socks. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and was an avid reader. She loved to play cards, enjoyed her flower gardens, and lived for the companionship of friends, family, and her beloved dog Bennie who visited her frequently at Mountain Lea Lodge during the past few months. She is survived by daughter Susan (Lawrence) Powell of Lawrencetown; sons Carroll (Cindy) and Michael (Heather) both of Bear River, and Stephen of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; sister Linda Lewis, Bible Hill; brother Donald Wamboldt of Bridgewater; grandchildren Dylan, Darci, Kaylla, Colton, Kyle, Hannah, and Avery; and nieces and nephews Todd, Trevor, Jan, and Jeffrey. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Stanley Charlton. Funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 27 at Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Rev. Simone Wilson officiating.
