Peter Brian McNeil passed away December 31, 2023 surrounded by his four children. Born November 26, 1941 in Windsor, NS, he was the son of the late Wilfred “Ted” and Mildred McNeil. No longer encumbered by a body full of pain, he could begin the New Year with a dance and a jig.
Along with his parents, Peter had many people waiting to see him again with open arms. His wife, Jean (Boudreau), brothers Lloyd, Donald, Ray, Charlie, Edward; sister Heather (Jones); sisters in laws, Joan and Linda; daughter in law, Amanda McNeil. A New Year’s Eve celebration was probably had by all.
Peter spent the majority of his life in Weymouth, NS. Not always graced with a life of ease, Peter always maintained a sense of humour and a positive outlook on life even until the end. Peter enjoyed the simple things in life. He had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed being in nature, whether it was hunting, fishing, or just walking in the woods. He loved growing a vegetable garden and the larger the garden, the better. He was an avid reader, it didn’t matter what type of book, just as long as he had one. He loved playing board games and card games, especially crib. He also really enjoyed winning and didn’t let his opponent forget it. “Here comes the man’” was often heard in a game of crib. Music was very important to him. He played the guitar, enjoyed singing and many a country tune was heard from Willy, Wayland and Hank Williams, to name a few.
Peter was a foodie; he enjoyed preparing and eating meals. His plate was always loaded with pepper, how he loved pepper. While not a fan of visiting others, he did enjoy people visiting him. Peter was fond of sharing stories about his family and friends and his adventurous youth. Peter could adapt to any situation in life and could find happiness wherever his feet were planted. He will be missed.
Peter is survived by his children, Sherry (Dixon), Shawn (Jessie), Melissa (Shawn) and Lucas; grandchildren, Justin,Donovan, Dylan, Devan, Ally, Ethan, Madison, Jackson, Avery and Summer: great grandchildren, Caleb, Charlotte, Oskar, Ophelia and Daxton,; sister, Mary Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews.
In true Pete style, no service will be held. Pomp and ceremony were not for him.
“ Send my body home on a freight train.
And don’t worry none that I don’t go first class…” (Randy Travis)
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
To remember Pete, enjoy the simple things in life: read a good book, eat a delicious meal, enjoy nature, plant a garden, have a good laugh, tell a good story, listen to music, play a game and share a toast.
