Born on April 12, 1939, at Point Prim Lighthouse, Robert was the son of the late Frank and Janet Wilson. He spent his early years helping tend the lighthouse alongside his parents until 1964, an experience that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Robert was a hardworking and dedicated man. Over the years, he worked as a truck driver for various businesses, including Atlantic Wholesalers and the local ambulance service. He later became a skilled welder and marine mechanic at Larche’s before establishing his own welding and repair business. Even into his 70s, he continued taking on small welding and repair jobs, a testament to his strong work ethic and passion for his trade.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and boating. Robert especially enjoyed annual camping trips over the May long weekend, as well as many visits to Kejimkujik National Park. He took great pride in his cottage on Porter’s Lake, where he spent countless hours with family. In 1999, he fulfilled a memorable dream of driving across Canada with his wife, trailer in tow, accompanied by his daughter and grandchildren.
Robert also enjoyed winters spent in Florida with his wife and friends, where he embraced relaxation, sunshine, and many rounds of golf.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 65 years, Ruth Wilson (Magarvey); his daughter, Wanda (Allan) Mullen; his grandchildren, Justin (Courtney) Mullen, Rachel Mullen and great-grandchildren, Samuel , Rosalie, Jesse and Archie Mullen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
