"Surrounded by his loving family, Roger Warren Winchester passed away on December 6th at 7:07 pm in his home in Digby county. Roger was best known for his compassion and has touched the lives of so many throughout his honest, Christian life. Roger was born in the town of Digby with his parents the late Dudley and Alice Winchester.
He is mourned by his surviving family, Wife Helena, daughter in law Darlene (Barry McCullough) children Gail, Roger Jr, foster Son Richard McGraph (Veronica Sponagle) and his sisters Ruby Delanty and Joyce Pennington.
Roger has three grandchildren, Dylan Gaudett (Jennifer Allison-Gaudett), David Gaudett (Christie Gregory) and Matthew Winchester (Julie Ross).
His predeceased loved ones are, eldest son Nathan, brothers Dudley, Chester, Winston, Richard, Albert and sisters Betty Armstrong, Sally Beckstead and Marion Brazier.
Roger was a strong figure in the Digby school system for 33 years as a senior custodian until he reached his well-earned retirement. Throughout his life Roger had only the greatest of thoughts for others and he made it known through his actions, that the community was like his family as he was never one to second guess the thought of helping those that may need it.
Devastated by the loss of his son Nathan who was taken by an intoxicated motorist, Roger and his devoted wife Helena, began the local MADD chapter in a crusade to prevent further, senseless tragedies within the community. Their devotion to the cause seemed to supersede their own restful retirement.
Fun, loving and thoughtful, Roger humbly made strong bonds with every person he met and was a fine role model for his family. May we all love as greatly as he has."
