Ruth Ellen Stanton Downes

Downes, Ruth Ellen age 93 , Whale Cove , Digby Co. passed away April 11, 2012 in the Mahone Bay Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in Whale Cove, Digby Co. she was a daughter of the late Guy and Annie (Frost) Stanton. Ruth enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was a great cook. She enjoyed looking after children in her younger years and was a “ handy woman” who could do anything from using an axe to plumbing. Surviving are her daughters Heather Downes, of Lumsden , Sask. ; Brenda ( Jr. Simms) Merritt, Middle Cross Rd. Digby Co. Catherine (Ian) Biggs, Quispamsis, NB ; son Frank Downes, Moncton, NB.; sisters Thelma Theriault, Tiddville, Digby Co.; Flora (Ralph) Braid, Renforth, NB; grandchildren Bruce Cosman, Douglas Cosman, Stacey Merritt, Adam Merritt, Wanda Wheeler, Allyson Biggs and Robyn Biggs great- grandchildren Jessica Downes Merritt, Brooklyn Merritt, and Ryan Biggs. She was predeceased by her husband Tommy, sisters Joyce , Doris, Mary, Jean, Ada, and brother Frank. Visitation 7-9pm Saturday from Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch St. Digby and from where funeral service will be held 1pm Sunday. Rev. John Dickinson will officiate with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River. Family Flowers only. Donations in memory can be made to the Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River.
