Steven had the soul of an artist and philosopher. He loved writing poetry, listening to music, and spending time playing his guitar. He performed at speaking events where he won awards for best poem, and he also wrote and published several chat books. Steven loved the outdoors and nature, while in Nova Scotia he would spend time gazing at the ocean which filled his soul with joy and peace. In his younger days he was an athlete, especially enjoying hockey and swimming. Above all what stood out about Steven was his character, he was gentle, sensitive, kind, respectful and had a good heart. He was always there with a helping hand and was generous to a fault, often going without so he could give to someone in need. Animals loved Steven as much as he loved them. His two fur babies Stewart and Abby went to heaven with him. Steven had a profound love for family and friends, who he wished happiness and joy, if he were here now his words to all of us would be, “we have to make the most of what is in front of us and decide to live our best life”.
He is survived by his best friend and partner, Mae Hill; special chosen granddaughter, Alexis Hill; fur baby, Dexter; sister, Sandy Morton (Mark); the Campbell aunts and uncles; greatly missed by the Chessman family; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Heartfelt thank you to the amazing firefighters, const Julia Fox, Chaplain Sharon White, Pastor Mark Cress, Smith's Cove and Digby communities, the Canadian Red Cross, and Digby Hospital staff.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home Digby, and a celebration of life will follow in Ontario at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory to any animal focused charity. Share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
