Vincent, Violet Ramona – 92 of Digby, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ July 14, 2022 at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home after a short illness. Born in Digby, she was the third child of the late Hugh and Grace Emily (Marshall) Vincent. She grew up in the depression era and very much enjoyed visiting her Uncle Joe’s farm in the Acacia Valley and seeing her cousins. She was quite involved with Brownies as a child. In her teen years, she was a very faithful worker at the Digby United Baptist Church in Christian Education, teaching primary classes, correspondence courses and for leadership courses taken at M.R.E.C. Camp at Chipman, N.B.
Ramona attended the Digby Academy School. The following is a school yearbook caption in her mother’s scrapbook as written by her grade 11 classmates in 1947:
“A good student; a friend worthwhile, Always ready with a smile.
‘Monie,’ as she is commonly called has a pleasing personality. She is quiet and very easy-going, with a ready smile for everyone. She is studious, and has always attained a high standing in her work. Her motto is to succeed in whatever she sets out to do. Her ambition is to be a kindergarten teacher, and we know she will make a fine one. May success be yours in future years, Monie!”
After high school she studied Commercial (typing/clerical) and worked at the Department of National Defense in Halifax in a clerical position. She resigned from that position in the 1970s moving back home to help look after her parents. It was there that she worked at an insurance company next to the Digby Hospital. Although she never did become a kindergarten teacher, she loved children and taught Children’s Sunday School at the Digby United Baptist Church for many years. Ramona was very artistic and enjoyed oil painting on canvas. She was brilliant at arts and crafts, always creating home-made Birthday and Christmas cards for friends and family. These cards, of course, required verses. Needless to say, her ability to formulate poems was amazing. She retired early in the 1980s to help her sister Grace look after their mother as their father had passed away. She led a very contented life. She is survived by her sister-in-law Hilary, two nephews Alan and Ian Vincent (Jessie), grand-niece-Amelia and grand-nephew Sam. She is predeceased by her sister Grace, brothers Robert and Herb, and sister-in-law Ruth.
A special thank you to all the staff at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home for their care and attention of Aunt Ramona. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 22nd at Digby United Baptist Church, Rev. Donald Robertson presiding. A reception afterwards will be followed by interment at the Hill Grove Baptist Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Digby Baptist Church.
