William Thomas Morrow, born in Toronto (1938), passed away peacefully at home in Weymouth, Nova Scotia on Friday, May 5, 2023. He leaves behind daughters, Shelley and Julinda, both of Barrie, ON; step-son, Mark (Bev); step-daughters, Jennifer (Marc); Ann Marie (Joe); grandchildren, Shawn (Danielle), Stephanie (Dominic), Danielle (Kyle), Raymond (Kimberly), Chantelle (Andrew), Chelsea and eleven loving great grandchildren.
William attended Port Credit High School, Mississauga, ON before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 18. After completing his tour of duty, he studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto, worked in the trades and raised a family in Willowdale. In 1971, he joined the North York Fire Department and remained on the job for 35 years. Retiring as Captain in 2006, he left Ontario to take up residence in Nova Scotia - where he happily lived out the remainder of his life. William was also proud to be a skilled carpenter and accomplished at refurbishing found objects. He was a self-taught, noteworthy guitar player inspired by his hero, Gordon Lightfoot. He had a fondness for film, art, literature, photography, cooking and was an avid golfer and pool player.
William and his beautiful loving wife Mary fully renovated their retirement home together. It is here, that they hosted a great deal of wonderful family meals and social gatherings. In their early years, many late evenings were spent watching old movies and dancing. Both worked and volunteered at the Royal Canadian Legion in Weymouth, NS as well. William had an infectious laugh, enjoyed telling jokes and reminiscing about the good old days at the Fire Hall - the wonderful camaraderie amongst his crew included dedicated teamwork, getting the job done and pulling pranks on one another. He respected and cared deeply for the men he worked with; always speaking very highly of them. He loved all of his six children dearly, spent a lot of time playing, entertaining and teasing his six grandchildren, and cherished all of his eleven great-grandchildren.
William was predeceased by wife, Mary, both parents, two sisters, Lillian and Gail, and eldest daughter, Rebecca. He will be tremendously missed by us all, including extended family members, close friends and former colleagues.
Donations in William’s memory can be made to charity of choice. A small private family service will take place at a later date.
