be with her Lord and Savior on April
25, 2016 at around 8:05 PM. Her
sons, David and Mark Ysusi and
their wives Rhonda and Sandi all of
Dinuba, were by her side. After a
short hospitalization, Nadine spent
the last several weeks of her life
in her home, under hospice and
Comfort Keepers care. Her passing
was the end of an approximately
4-1/2 year battle with breast cancer.
Throughout the up and downs of surgery,
radiation, and numerous alternative
treatments, she maintained a positive
and cheerful attitude, always anxious to greet
and be with her family.
Nadine’s father, Harry Richards, moved his family to California
when she was high school age He moved back to Oklahoma
and returned to California shortly thereafter. He again returned
to Oklahoma only to again come back to California. When
her father decided to return to Oklahoma a third time, Nadine
exhibited some of the independent spirit that was an integral
part of her being and would not go with her family but stayed at
her job at a raisin-packing company, West Coast Growers and
Packers in Dinuba.
Her choice to continue her employment with West Coast
turned out to be the only job that she would ever have. She
began working for West Coast in early 1945 when they were
located in Dinuba, California. She began working as a packer
“on the line.” When West Coast moved their packing operation
to Selma in the ‘50s, she continued to work for West Coast,
carpooling much of the time. Her attention to detail and work
ethic won her a position in the lab where her primary responsibility
was tests for raisin Quality Control. At first she worked
under the supervision of the lab supervisor but eventually was
promoted to lab supervisor, a position which she held for most
of her career. Her responsibilities included certifying the quality
of raisins that were to be used in Kellogg’s, Post, General Foods,
General Mills cereals, Brach’s candies, and several specialty
candy companies.
Nadine was born in Glencoe, Oklahoma on September 13,
1927. She met her future husband, Pete Ysusi, at the Maryland
Café (Rabo Bank site). Pete also worked at West Coast at the
time. Pete and Nadine were married in Nevada on December
3, 1945. They lived in Dinuba for their entire marriage. Since
Pete’s passing in 1992, Nadine was able to travel to many locations
in the US and overseas with family and friends on numerous
occasions.
She is preceded in death by her husband, mother and father,
two brothers, a sister, and three nieces. She is survived by her
sons David and Mark of Dinuba, 4 grandchildren, Crystol Ysusi
Springer of Fresno, Matt Ysusi of Fresno, Samuel Ysusi of Denver,
Colorado, Jordan Ysusi Tos of Hanford and 9 (soon to be
11) great-grandchildren.
