

Born September 17, 1933 in Oklahoma. He completed 8th grade.
He was married to Mildred Eggleston and they had one son, Tommy G. Pope.
On June 17, 1961 he married the love of his life, Leah Marie Stucky. On their first wedding anniversary, their daughter, Leah Dorraine was born. On August 2, 1963, Christopher Howard was added to the family.
He resided in Orosi for 46 years. In the fall of 1979 he founded Pope’s Propane Service in Orosi, Where he was actively involved in the family business until his death.
Tommy was a member of the Orosi First Baptist Church for many years.
In later years, Tommy became a member of the First Southern Baptist in Cutler. Tommy was honored as a member of the Orosi Masonic Lodge for over 50 years of membership. He served as president of the Orosi Chamber of Commerce. Pope’s Propane Service was selected as Business of the Year in 2003.
Tommy will be especially remembered for his love of people, as he never met a stranger. His generosity assisted many families through difficult financial times.
Tommy was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his elk, deer, and fishing trips to Junction, Utah where he owned a cabin.
Survivors include: His wife of 53 years, Leah Pope of Orosi, Tommy G. Pope (Peggy) of Redding, Dorraine Smith of Orosi (Larry of Squaw Valley) and Christopher Pope (Melanie) of Visalia. His seven grandchildren include: Savannah Pope of Redding, Aaron Pope (Megan) of Bakersfield, Sierra Smith of Orosi, Andrew Pope of Atascadero, Forrest Smith of Orosi, Wilhelmina and Cosette Wiebe of Visalia.
Graveside services will be held at Smith Mountain Cemetery on Thursday, August 21
at 10:00 AM No viewing will be held. Dopkin’s Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
