Charles Leonard (“Len”) Davis passed away on June 21, 2025, at the age of 93. He died peacefully in his sleep. He spent his final days with his loving wife of 35 years, Ivy. Len was born in 1931 and raised in Downsville, NY, one of five brothers, all of whom predeceased him. Len became an Eagle Scout in 1948. After graduating from the State University of New York at Albany, Len joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard a submarine in the European theater during the Korean conflict. Len was a lover of the arts, and a sportsman. Len particularly enjoyed attending concerts at Tanglewood and Lincoln center, as well as visiting the museums of NYC. Len also enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid runner. In his younger years he was a Yankees fan. Len dedicated his life to educating children. He spent 30 years in the Dix Hills School District, first as a Physics teacher and then as a guidance counselor, before specializing in serving families of children with disabilities. After many years of pioneering work, Len “retired” as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services for Half Hollow Hills School District. Always a hardworking and dedicated public servant, Len continued aiding children with disabilities and their families into his 80s as an Impartial Hearing Officer for New York State and as an advisor to over a dozen Long Island school districts.
Len is survived by his wife Ivy; children Cindy Davis, Jeff (Sharon) Davis, Jeffrey Stern, Pam O’Brien (Eric); grandchildren Rebecca, Jack, Brittani, Alexa, Ariana, Ashley (Matt), Elle, Lee and Ian (Rachel); great grandchildren Jacob and William.
