

Marvin Thal, of Commack, NY, Melville, NY and Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2015. The funeral service was held at Temple Beth David in Commack, NY on Friday, July 10, 2015. He was 84.
Marvin was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Sophie and Harry Thal on January 14, 1931. He graduated from Boys High School, Brooklyn, NY in 1948 before attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He married Sonny Semel on December 28, 1952 at the Melrose Chateau in Brooklyn. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean War.
Marvin is survived by his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Sonny Thal. Marvin and Sonny's love and respect for each other evolved into a partnership that enabled them to build an extraordinary life for themselves and their family. Marvin is survived by his children Linda (Roy Gilbert), Ray (Stacey) and Sharan (Mitch Bonder), 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved brother Herb. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Hennie (wife of Herb and sister of Sonny) and sister Phyllis (Howie Boyar).
Marvin worked in the furniture industry for his entire life. He was also past-president and devoted long-time member of Temple Beth David in Commack, NY. He will be remembered for his love of life and, particularly, for his love of family.
