Every year October 22 brings me back to the years I knew Bob. He hated being called Robert. I knew him for 13 years and his influence on me continues to this day. I cant believe its been 7 years since I saw him. I am happy knowing his family has so many people still remembering Bob.

I was in Mr. Perelmuter’s 6th grade IGC class back in 1992 and I can attest to what a wonderful and dedicated teacher this man was. I respected him because he always told us things straight and tried to educate us on how to prepare for the real world. Coming from somewhat of a troubled home I needed this. His dedication to us and to the musical productions he put on with his students was tremendous. Him, Ms. Criss and Ms. Weiner always had us prepared and believing in ourselves. I remember him personally giving me words of encouragement watching me communicate and cooperate with my classmates in our daily games of two hand touch football during lunch. He admired my leadership qualities and told me so one day. Those words of encouragement were something I sorely needed to hear at that time. Mr. Perelmuter will sorely be missed and to him I always always be grateful. 

I went to PS 107 in the early 80's and I found magic in "Music in the Air" which at the time i thought was written by Mr. Perlmutter. Every year, it was the thing you needed to be involved in because Music in the Air was EVERYTHING back then. I was in glee and if it wasn't for Mr. Perlmutter and that production, I would never have realized how much I love music. I grew up to be a successful singer in Freestyle music and have had many hits on the radio. Today I still get to do what I dreamed of as a kid thanks to him. Im saddened to hear about his passing but after reading this, i realize how many people he also touched. I was looking for that song on you tube as I was humming it today. god bless his soul.

I attended PS 107 with my brother in the 1980's. I was in Glee Club and Mr. Perelmuter led us. He prepared us every year for "Music in the Air." What a wonderful event and what a wonderful teacher.  He cared so much about his job and it showed. I was saddened to hear of his passing a few years ago. My deepest condolences to his family. 

He was an exceptional educator. I have the fondest memory of the IGC program,  class projects, & the countless productions Mr. Perelmuter orchestrated. He was passionate, dedicated and an exceptional human being. My deepest condolences to his family. 

A person just started working in my company and while chatting we both realized we went to the same grammar school.  We reminisced about different teachers and I asked him if he knew Mr. Perelmuter.  We both wondered what he was doing these days and a google search informed us of his passing.  Reading the many sentiments here I agree with all of them... I felt inclined to add my own.  I remember having Mr. Perelmuter for 6th grade.  I always considered him ahead of his time but I thought that was only my opinion.  Wow that is not the case... looks like many folks here are saying the same thing.  I still have my yearbook.  1982.  Our play on stage that year revolved around robots... a revolutionary concept for early 80's.  

I did a local theatre production and had to audition.  I'm not a singer and had no clue what song to sing... I turned to Music In the Air.... 

Bravo to Mr. Perelmuter to inspire young lives and to be remembered for it.




I was reminiscing about music in the air and am deeply saddened to learn of Mr Perelmuter’s passing.

Mr. Perelmuter was a unique teacher. He engaged all the students, faculty, staff and parents in the school.  I enjoyed the many years that I had him as my teacher in Glee Club. He encouraged me from coming out of my shell that I was able to take a role as Gertie in the play Oklahoma and sing. He related to students as the direct teacher or recreational club teacher. He was highly creative. Everyone will miss him but always will have great eternal memories. My brother has passed but Philip told me that he had very fond memories of Mr. Perelmuter. Very sad.  R.I.P.  My condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to find this news out.  Mr.  P was my favorite teacher,  and I have thought about him many,  many times through the years.  I just thought about him and Googled his name,  only to see this sad news.  I think about our glee club performances,  as well as performing Oliver in our class play.  My thoughts to his family and friends.  May they all be comforted by as fond memories as I have. 

Bob Perlmutter was an exceptional teacher who opened my eyes to the world and encouraged me to be who I am.  Little did I realize, way back in 1969 in 6th grade, how much he would influence me to this day.  As Gilbert & Sullivan would say,from the HMS Pinafore, "He was a right good captain, too!"  My deepest condolences to his family; may you be comforted knowing that his legacy lives on in his former students, who all adored him!  He was the best.

Last Spring at a family and friends celebration, a casual mention of Bob Perelmuter and "Music in the Air," prompted the four young women, all 107 and MitA graduates to burst into song joyfully, harmonies intact since the 1980's!
Those of us, parents and students alike, who were urged by Bob to do the very best we could, were often surprised at what we could accomplish.  He'll live forever in our hearts.

I was very sad to hear about Bob's passing. 
He was an excellent teacher who knew how to   reach each student to help them to achieve their best. As a parent who helped in the school it was a delight to work alongside him. 
I was always amazed at how on the days of performances he got the students to be totally self sufficient. We continue to talk about those fun times, and miss him.
Bob, with the support of David Leibowitz, created an incredible environment for our children. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I didn't like a lot of faculty at PS 107 back in the '70s, but Mr. Perelmuter wasn't one of them. I have a lot of fond memories of this great teacher, may he rest in peace.

The P.S. 107 class of 1973 would like to say "thank you" and "goodbye" to a very dear friend and teacher.

I completely echo what Mr. P's other students have said. It's impossible to overstate the importance that the intense exposure to the performing arts had on all our lives. That's not possible without the unstinting generosity and love of the most amazing teacher in the world. How lucky we all were to have you Mr. P - much love from the Class of '75!

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Perelmuter's passing.  I always expected to see him again, even though so many years have passed.  He was a great role model, mentor, and friend.  I felt inspired by him every day in his classroom.  He was determined to make an impact on every kid's life that passed through his class, and he did.  I cherish so many memories that he helped create - the terrific class we had, bus trips, plays, music, trip to DC (twice).  In just a short time he really shaped my life and I will never forget him.

I am shattered to learn of the passing of Mr. Perelmuter as he had an enormous impact on my life. He was a unique teacher in the open classroom and opened the door to a world of music for me plus 2 trips to Washington, DC. Class of '74, 6-313 performed in the first (2) Music In The Airs & The Pajama Game. The last time I saw him was for the final Alumni MIA @ 107. I loved my Father but being around him felt like I had a school Father. My heart is broken for Lynda, Stephanie & Mitchell and their Families.I pray that you can find some comfort knowing how much so many people loved him. So sorry to learn of the passing of Robert. Years have gone by but I still have wonderful memories of performing with the Columbia Players and enjoying performing theatre under his tuteledge. Love to Linda and his family.

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of my favorite teacher Mr. Perlmutter.  My memories of elementary school are surrounded by you, your inspiration, your talent and true dedication to your profession.  You wore your heart on your sleeve and that made you not only a great teacher but a mentor to so many of us.  My brother and I were both blessed to be in your class.  You created a legacy with your Music in the Air productions that still remains long after you left.  As a parent now myself who watches my children perform in various plays I have a whole new appreciation of the patience and dedication it took to pull off those performances.  Hello Dolly, Fiddler on the Rood and Bye Bye Birdie were the ones I was part of and I will treasure those memories for a lifetime.  The bond that was created with my classmates during those formative years have remained unsurpassed by any other I have experienced thus far.  You are Mr. Music in the Air and were a treasure to the field of education.  RIP Mr. Perlmutter...you have definitely left an imprint on so many. May these memories bring your family comfort during this difficult time.

Mr P. was way ahead of his time. It is hard to fathom he is longer with us. His passion for the arts and music were passed down to so many of us and we took the ball and ran with it. The memories that I have from my time in Project Open under his tutelage in the late 70's will be with me forever in vivid, rich color. Because of his influence, the friendships I forged in his 6th grade class continue til today. He created a unique special bond with and for his students. He leaves behind a legacy of lessons taught and rich experiences created for others that most people will never approach in their lifetime. He most certainly will never be forgotten. what a terrific man to have been given the gift of Love, Life and encouragement to all children. Our family participated  and went to many music in the air shows, long after our daughter went on to high school.  It was always a treat to see a new and different show year after year. Thanks for the memories Mr. P.......You will be missed but not forgotten.

Hands down the best teacher I've ever had.  Mr. Perelmuter fueled my love of music, theater and journalism.  He was a champion of arts education long before anyone else.  His passion and dedication to his students went unmatched.  I'm so sad to hear he is gone but uplifted and inspired to see his memory lives on in so many of us.

Mr. Perelmuter touched so many lives. Not only was I a part of Music in the Air during my time at PS107, not only was he my teacher in 6th grade, not only did I bump into him later in graduate school as my professor for Child Psychology at Queens College, but he was my mentor. I went to him when I was looking for advice on becoming an educator and he was always welcoming. He inspired me to do my best for my students and helped me see that being a teacher is more than just academics. I learned so much from him. 

He used to bring up that he and Mrs. Weiner were still good friends and their families were going on vacations together. He also mentioned his family and how they were and what they were doing. He did always sound like life was treating him well and I'm glad he led a life he loved. 

I only hope that those closest to him will be able to celebrate his life and that the lives he was able to influence will continue his "best practices" as he called them. 

Bob, you are truly missed. May you rest in peace.

Mr. Perelmuter was an angel. He brought light into the lives of many students, faculty and into the community. His talent was infectious and his spirit equally so. He was so critical in how my life played out and I am forever grateful.

Mr. Perlmutter was my favorite teacher at PS 107 alongside Mrs. Chaskin. Getting to perform in Music in the Air was a real thrill but even more so was getting Mr. Perlmutter's encouragement. I can distinctly remember running around in class performing for everyone - looking back on it I must have looked ridiculous but he supported and encouraged all the students and their love of the arts. It really was the reason I pursued a career in entertainment. He has inspired so many of us from 107. His legacy lives on in me and that same spirit is something I intend to imbue in my son. I've known Mr. Perelmuter since I attended P.S.107 and was part of the I.G.C. classes. He was the father figure for us all, and you could tell that even the other teachers looked up to and respected him. He led the many music and singing lessons with a stern tongue and always pushed us to do better, go farther. He was the root of the 'Music in the Air' shows and truly dedicated himself to make it successful. Unfortunately I had just missed him in his retirement out of 6th grade teaching, but he continued to commit himself to working with students musically. He was a man of passion for what he did and it left an imprint on so many of his students. He will be dearly missed and kept in our hearts forever.

So sorry to hear this Mr P was my sixth grade teacher years ago and then taught three of my sons

I graduated from P.S. 107 in 1977, and the memories of my experience in Project Open are as bright and vivid as they were when I was leaving that special place. The influence that Mr. Perelmuter had on my life starts with music, but moves to life lessons, and beyond that to confidence, independence, hard work, and dedication. He was an amazing example of someone who had passion for his work. The scope of his influence on generations of young people is staggering. 

The friendships that I made at P.S. 107 have lasted a lifetime. That school was home to me in every sense. When we were working on a show, there wasn't a day that went by when I didn't see my Mom, and the Mom's of so many of my classmates working hard at sewing costumes and building scenery. Their dedication to Mr. P's vision of this incredible educational experience was such a testament to him, and a big part of it's success 
I have the happiest memories of rehearsing my solos (for hours) at the piano with Mr. P, those time were so special.  Our shows were  Salute To Broadway, and Bye Bye Birdie (One Last Kiss). Mr. P  taught me that nothing gets results like hard work and practice. 

To this day, when I'm together with my 107 friends, we still sing the songs from our shows and Music in the Air, still remember every lyric. That's because of you Mr P. You gave us music, joy, and so many incredible memories. 

Music is such a huge part of my life, thank you for planting that seed and for so much more. 
You were our Pied Piper and we will always follow you and continue to try to make you proud!

There are no words I can say to truly thank Mr. Perelmuter for everything he taught me. Being a part of the esteemed Music in the Air program or IGC Show at P.S. 107 was an unforgettable experience that will stay with me forever.

I am so sad to hear of Mr. P.'s passing!   It's not very often a truly exceptional and outstanding teacher comes along, one that impacts a class as much as he did.   All of us in 6-412 Class of 1986 were truly blessed to have had him as a teacher.  He will be very fondly remembered.  My deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.

Mr. Perelmuter was the single greatest influence in my elementary education. He encouraged and challenged me in ways that to this day, astounds me. Not a single educator had such a profound affect on the way I perceived the world. He instilled a confidence in me that had I not had him at PS 107, I am sure would still be absent in my core. P. S 107 class of 1979 is deeply saddened by the loss of Mr Perelmuter. He was truly one of a kind.  Words cannot express how much he impacted our lives and we will always be grateful to have known him.  

So sad to hear of the passing of Bob Perelmuter. Great talented teacher who touched so many lives of students, parents and extended families of the 107 community. Memories of Mr. Perelmuter and 'Music In The Air' will live forever in our hearts!

For those of you that did not go to PS107 or have Mr Perelmuter, will not understand what an impact he made on his students. He was an amazing teacher, leader, inspiration. He Was PS107, He was Music in the Air, He was the Heart and Soul of his students.  We were lucky enough to have a get together with him a few years back. So Amazing to have our 6th grade family reunite and see eachother reminiscing of the good Ole days, Fiddler on the Roof. My childhood would never have been as exceptional as it was if  not for Mr Perelmuter and my PS107 family.

BDE! We are so saddened to hear of Bobby's death. He played a major role in our lives when we all spent wonderful summers at Camp Columbia. He will be missed. His memory will forever be a blessing

It was devastating hearing of the passing of Mr. Perelmuter.
HE was PS 107, HE was Music in the Air, HE was the HEART and SOUL of his students. We were fortunate enough to have a together with him and a few of our fellow 6th grade class a few years back. It was Amazing to see everyone, reminiscing of our time together. My childhood would never have been as exceptional as it was if not for Mr. Perelmuter and my fellow PS 107 family.

I am so sad to hear about the passing of the greatest teacher I ever had.   PS 107 was head and shoulders above all other schools back in the 70s/80s because of him and his talents.  He taught me and all 3 of my sisters.  Whenever we get together and reminisce, his name is always mentioned. He directed our class in Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat.  A production that I'm convinced no other elementary school teacher could pull of with such ease.  He gave me the gift of loving the arts, theater, and music. I will be forever grateful for this. A true talent, musically and educationally.  I missed the chance to see him again at the Music in the air anniversary about 10 years ago, and I've been kicking myself ever since.  There was not a day in 6th grade where I didn't want to go to school.  May God bless him and the Perelmuter family.  I'm sure wherever he is now, he's surrounded by music.
