Horst was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1956. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in Korea. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Barb Wergin, and together they built a beautiful life filled with family, laughter, and shared adventures for nearly 62 years.
A jack of all trades, Horst was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He especially cherished time spent with his loved ones – bowling weekly with his sons and grandsons in a local league, golfing, and enjoying his Sunday night pool games with his sons. His warmth, humor, and generosity made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Horst is survived by his devoted wife, Barb Kukulies; their two sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Kim Kukulies and Brian and Lisa Kukulies; five grandsons and their wives – Matt and Jill, Jared and Jaclyn, Josh and Audrey, Isaac and Megan, and Connor and Kelley Kukulies. He was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Arlen and Beau; and five great-granddaughters Amelia, Avery, Alayna, Elsie, and Evelyn.
Horst’s kindness, strong work ethic, and love of family will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2026 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services (Dorr Chapel), 4330 18th St., Dorr, MI 49323, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
