Gladys C. Turner

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Samuel Prim and Dr. Ed Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday prior to service time.

Flowers are being accepted or the family request that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 901 Montezuma Avenue, Dothan, AL, 36301.

A native of Houston County, Gladys lived in Dothan most of her life. She was preceded in death by husbands, James Rush Sorrells and Julian T. Turner. Gladys was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 54 years and a member of the Ester Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker, loved her flowers and took great pleasure in her beautiful yard.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Jo Jones of Dothan, Mary Rush Embry of Dadeville, AL; granddaughter, Julie Ann Rikard of Dothan; three grandsons, Stan Jones of Dothan, AL, Dr. Rob Embry of Florence, AL and Rush Jones who preceded her in death; nine great-grandchildren; two dedicated friends, Connie Oliver and Debra Faulk whom Gladys loved and cherished; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Turner Jones, David Jones, Stanley Jones, Rush Jones, Donald Hicks and Dr. Marnix Heersink.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ester Sunday School Class.
