

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Pearson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greystone United Methodist Church, 4401 Fortner St., Dothan, AL 36305.
Mr. McAllister was born October 8, 1922 in Hannah, South Carolina and lived the early years of his life there. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy. In 1946, he moved to Dothan where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed with Mack Electric Company for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1987. Mr. McAllister was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church (now Greystone United Methodist Church) and the VFW.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family, his country, his church and his coffee buddies at the Waffle House and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott McAllister and his wife, Sabrina.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lenora Wise McAllister of Dothan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry McAllister and Donald McAllister (Daisy), all of Dothan; grandchildren, Steven McAllister, Robin McAllister Johnson (Shannon), Rex Aaron McAllister, Trinity Roussel Moore and a grandson who Mr. and Mrs. McAllister raised as their son, J. D. McAllister, II; several nieces and nephews.
