

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Dothan with Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday.
Mrs. Hickman was born Mary Jeanette Williams on March 20, 1920 in Denton, GA to James Monroe Williams and Winnie Byrd Williams. She graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1937 and eventually moved to Fort Stewart, GA where she met her husband Army Sergeant, Fred Hickman.
After World War II, the couple moved to Bainbridge, GA where they made their home and raised two children, Wynette and Eric. There she was a homemaker and Sunday school teacher. In 1960, the family moved to Dothan, AL. There she worked for several years at Baxter Shoe Store. She attended First Baptist Church of Dothan where she enjoyed working with preschoolers in Sunday school for over 40 years.
Recently she moved to Foulk Manor South Assisted Living in Wilmington, DE to be near her daughter. Her greatest joys in life included working with young children, taking care of her flowers and feeding the birds that visited her yard. She was an excellent cook and very appreciated for her many delicious chocolate cakes. She touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Hickman is preceded in death by her husband, Fred F. Hickman, a son, Eric Hickman, a sister, Elizabeth Miles and a brother, J. M. Williams.
She is survived by her daughter, Wynette Sims of Wilmington, DE; sister, Byrdie Kerby of Augusta, GA; grandsons, Christopher Sims of Wilmington, DE, Matthew Hickman of Dalton, GA, Ross Hickman of Dalton, GA and daughter-in-law, Shanda Hickman of Dalton, GA.
