

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Rev. Lonnie Earl Hendrix officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the services.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the Hartford Rescue Squad, 503 S. 3rd Ave., Hartford, AL, 36344.
Mr. Pullen was born December 25, 1933 in Houston County where he lived the early years of his life. He was a graduate of Dothan High School where he also played football. He later completed his education at LSU where he received his degree in banking. Upon graduation, he entered the banking business and began his career at City National Bank in Dothan. He later worked with First City Bank in Ft. Walton, FL, Commercial Bank in Okeechobee, FL and the Bank of Bonifay in Bonifay, FL primarily serving as vice-president, president and CEO during his banking career.
Mr. Pullen was a member of the Lion’s Club, Kiwanis Club, and lifetime member of National Rifle Association. He was also member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be dearly missed by all.
Mr. Pullen is predeceased by his parents John Benjamin and Virginia Buckner Pullen and a son-in-law, Robert Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Melba Cobb Pullen of Dothan; three children, Deborah Smith of Slocomb, Diane Maxey (Terry) of Dothan and John Benjamin Pullen II (Jennifer) of Dothan; four grandchildren, Brandon Smith (Tiffanie), Matthew Smith (Trisha), Dakota Pullen and Sierra Pullen; a brother, Stan Pullen (Elizabeth) of Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive.
