

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Dothan City Cemetery with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making contributions to First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL, for the Methodist Children’s Home at Selma.
Ernest was born June 28, 1927 in Dothan, Alabama He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from Auburn University in 1949 where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and the School of Agriculture Ag Council.
Ernest was employed by the U. S. Postal Service for thirty-three years, retiring as Postmaster of Ozark, AL in 1982.
Ernest is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, JoAnn Walden of Dothan; his daughter, Anne Register and her husband, Rick of Dothan; grandson, Allen Register of Auburn, AL; two granddaughters, Haley Hancock and her husband, Kyle of Madison, MS and Katlyn Register of Dothan, AL; great-grandson, Banks Hancock of Madison, MS and a sister, Marnita Crow of Birmingham, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ernest, Sr. and Juanita Moody Walden and his sister, Augusta W. Elmore. Arrangements under the direction of Byrd Funeral Home, Dothan, Alabama.
