

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Reverend Kyle Gatlin officiating. Mr. Dave Conway will do the eulogy. Burial for family members only will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Alabama on Thursday, September 16, 2010.
Mr. Darty was born December 13, 1935 in Winston County, Alabama. He graduated from Carbon Hill High School and played football at the University of Tennessee where he met and married his wife of 43 years, Peggy Darty.
He began his career as a football coach, first in Florida then at Marion Military Institute, Marion, Alabama. He later became a realtor and investor and owned and operated his own company, Realty in the Rockies in Woodland Park, Colorado. He and his family lived in Jasper, AL and then Tuscaloosa, AL before retiring in Dothan to be near his son and his family.
Mr. Darty was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, UT Letterman Association and Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and Tennessee football. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play ball.
Mr. Darty is predeceased by his parents, E. C. Darty and Grace Darty and his brothers, Dave Darty, Harry Darty and Curtis Darty.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Darty of Dothan; two sons, Lan (Susan) Darty of Dothan, Steve Darty of Bozeman, Montana; a daughter, Darla Darty of Birmingham; three grandchildren, David Darty, Drew Darty and Gus Darty.
Honorary pallbearers will be former teammates of the University of Tennessee.
