

Mr. Roy Edward “Chip” George, Jr., a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, while competing at the Diamond Lake Triathlon to support Dothan K-life, a youth ministry organization. He was 50.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church from 12:30 until 2:30 on Thursday prior to service time. At other times the family will be at Chip’s home, 404 Holly Lane or the home of his mother, Mrs. Jeannine George, 100 Meadowbrook Drive.

Chip was born April 19, 1960 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Roy Edward and Jeannine Auger George. Chip graduated from Houston Academy at age 16 and was the Salutatorian of his class. He attended the University of Alabama and was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1979 with degrees in Accounting, Finance, and Business Administration. In 1989, he married Susan Park and they shared a happy marriage for 21 years until his death. Chip and Susan have a bright and talented 14-year-old son, Austin, who is in the eighth grade at Houston Academy. Chip was a very devoted husband and father and was instrumental in many local organizations.
Chip was founder and President of Nite Owl Software. He served as President of the Dothan Dolphins swim team for five consecutive years until this year. Chip’s passions included being a referee for USA swimming, Tae Kwon Do – in which he recently received his 5th degree black belt, the First Baptist Church of Dothan where he taught Tae Kwon do classes at the Family Life Center, the Downtown Group where he was a board member for several years, and he lead the revitalization of the Dothan downtown area. His hobbies included woodworking, and he was an avid storyteller and reader. Chip George also stayed current on political issues facing the U.S. and had passionate views on the well being of the country. He was a true patriot.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. George, Senior.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Park George and their son, Austin Joon-oh George of Dothan; his mother, Mrs. Jeannine George of Dothan; two brothers, Robert George of Wicksburg, Kevin George (Cricket) of Dothan; a half-brother, Ray George (Kay) of Washington State; three sisters, Jeannine George Benefield (Ron), Linda George Marley (Don) of Geneva, Julie George of Dothan; six nieces, Olivia Rhodes Hughes, Candice Marley Conner, Megan Marley, Jessica George, Haley George and Avery Park; two nephews, Ritchie Rhodes and Conner Park; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jang Youl and Young Ja Park of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Liza Park of Tallahassee, FL; a brother-in-law Jinsue Park (Stephanie) of Atlanta, GA.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joe Donofro, David Kopriva, Chad Smith, Van Johnson, Keith Blackmon and Brian Reed.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dothan Dolphins Swim Team, the Dothan Downtown Group and Park's Tae Kwon Do.
