Ms. Carol Elizabeth Mockett, age 85, of Douglasville GA passed away Wednesday November 10, 2021. Carol was born on December 23, 1935 in Hackensack NJ, as the youngest of four children to William and Emma Meyer. She adored her older brothers, William, Robert, and Edward (even though they nicknamed her Pesty). Her childhood was filled with family gatherings that included numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. No occasion was too small for a celebration and since her father was a milkman, all occasions called for ice cream.
Carol graduated from Bogota High School in 1953 and attended secretarial school in NYC. The excitement of the city often led her away from class to attend shows and see the sites of the city. She married in 1956 and relocated to Fairport, New York where she devoted herself to raising her two children and perfecting her own style of celebrating and hosting based on her childhood experiences. During what she often called ‘The Fairport Years,’ Carol developed what would become lifelong relationships among her many friends and neighbors. She became an integral and iconic part of her community by planning and attending legendary all day bridge games, hosting dinners parties and snow day gatherings. She also attended Meyer family events and never missed a wedding or celebration, despite the distance.
In 1997, Carol moved to Douglasville, GA, the minute she learned she would be a grandmother. As "Grammy”, she delighted in every moment with her three grandchildren - Amanda, Janna, and Lauren. Babysitting, swimming, playing games, and attending their extracurricular activities, special events at school and church became the joy of her life. Carol continued to build a vibrant community among her many friends through playing and hosting bridge, dominoes, and bunco, as well as being an active member in the Cobb County FAN Club, and a member of Douglasville First Baptist Church.
While Carol faced many adversities in life such as the death of her son Bruce and her own suffering from the debilitating effects of cardiomyopathy, she persevered through her faith, friends, and positive attitude. Carol will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her love of friends and family, and for always being at the party!
Ms. Mockett was preceded in death by her parents, Wiliam and Emma (Steffans) Meyer; her son, Bruce Robert Mockett; her brothers, William, Edward and Robert Meyer; her sisters-in-law, Maria (Lutz) Meyer, Eva (Lanciotti) Meyer, and Paulette Meyer Liechti; her niece, Patricia (Meyer) Deaton and nephew, Bobby Meyer.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Barry) Tysor; granddaughters, Amanda, Janna and Lauren Tysor; nieces, Nancy (Greg) Knowlton, Gail (Tom) Staton, Susan (Richard Frazell) Meyer; nephews, Paul (Carolyn) Meyer, David (Robin) Meyer, William Meyer, Richard (Susan) Meyer; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The funeral service will follow at Noon in the Rosehaven Chapel. Carol will be laid to rest at Rosehaven Memorial Park following the service.
