

Mr. Charles W. Bennett, Jr., age 93, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018. He was born April 18, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a Feather Weight boxer for the Navy. Prior to joining the Navy, he also boxed for Georgia Power. He married Bessie Faye Perry November 4, 1945. He moved his family to Lithia Springs, Georgia in June 1958.
He was a Baptist by faith and taught Sunday School for many years at Lithia Springs First Baptist Church along with coaching softball for the men's church team. He loved the lake, and taught "too many teens to count” to water ski in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Mr. Bennett was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a volunteer Fireman at the Lithia Springs Fire Department. Bennett was a giver not a taker, a friend and an extremely hard worker. He was named Citizen of The Year in 1962 by the Lithia Springs Ruritan Club for his contribution to the community. He was a Master Plumber by trade along with his two brothers and his father, Charles Wilburn Bennett Sr. "C. W." as he was called, was a Builder and opened Bennett Plumbing Company soon after he moved to Lithia Springs. He was 84 years old when he retired closing his business of 51 years. He was the oldest licensed plumber in the State of Georgia. He had retired too soon and did not know what to do with his enormous amount of energy. Then the call came. He was offered a part-time job by his grand-son-in-law, Jarrod Smith, son of the late Jimmy Smith who started and owned Best Bonding. Jarrod and his partner, Keith Davis, employed C.W. for five years, saving him from boredom and giving him some of the best years of his life. Charles W. Bennett loved his family and friends, he was funny, young at heart and full of life. He especially loved Jesus, his wife his children and grandchildren. He loved Elvis and he loved to dance. He never complained and never gossiped, he minded his own business and embraced every minute of his years on this earth.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Wilburn Bennett Sr. and his mother Eunice McLaughlin Bennett of Lithia Springs, Georgia; his sister Doris Bennett Heaton of Atlanta, Georgia; His brother, Bobbie Bennett of Marietta, Georgia; and his brother, Foster Jean Bennett of Cummings, Georgia; his son, Forrest Landrum Bennett of Douglasville, Georgia; his son, Charles W. Bennett III of Lithia Springs.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, Bessie Faye Bennett; his daughter Linda Bennett Worthan, son-in-law Tom Worthan, Douglasville, Georgia; his daughter, Brenda Godfrey, son-in-law Tony Godfrey Lithia Springs, Ga.; his son, Jerry Alan Bennett, Chicago, Illinois; six grandsons: Thomas Bradley Worthan; Phillip Godfrey and his wife Stephanie; Nicholas Bennett and his wife Jena; Christopher Bennett and his wife Erica; Shawn Bennett; and Forrest Bennett, Jr.; five granddaughters: Stephanie Worthan Sanders and her husband, Eric; Shannon Worthan Smith and her husband, Jarrod Smith; Kimberley Godfrey Jardina her husband Larry Jardina; Brooke Bennett; and Blair Bennett. Ten great-grandsons: Wesley Smith, Crue Smith, Tate Sanders, Jack Jardina, George Jardina, Carson Bennett, Jamison Bennett, Ethan Bennett, Maverick Martinez and Arian Martinez. Six great-granddaughters: Haeven Sanders, Madelyn Jardina, Elizabeth Jardina, Alex Godfrey, Emma Godfrey and Ashtyn Bennett.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 31, 2018. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until Funeral Service begins at 2 p.m. at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home.
The pallbearers are: Jarrod Smith, Wesley Smith, Jack Jardina, Phillip Godfrey, Shane Davis and Keith Davis.
