Dorothy Sue Wood age 83, of Douglasville, passed away on December 2. As a woman of deep faith, she found great joy in her Bible study groups and in sharing God’s word with others. Her greatest happiness, however, came from the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren.
She dedicated more than 31 years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher, spending the majority of her career at Burnett Elementary School. She was respected by colleagues and cherished by countless students whose lives she touched with patience, guidance, and genuine care.
An avid reader, she especially enjoyed mystery, suspense, and religious books. She also found peace in nurturing the flowers and plants around her home. Some of her happiest moments were simple, joyful rides in her daughter’s convertible. She loved riding with the top down, Chloe (her grand dog) in her lap, music blaring and the wind blowing through her curls! This became a Sunday tradition and will be missed. Other simple pleasures included shopping, eating at Hudson's and the Varsity and making her grand dog, Chloe howl.
She found great joy in trips to the nail salon with Jennifer and Riley and listening to her son-in-law help officiate sports on TV. She loved all music but nothing got her feet tapping faster than old southern gospel hymns. This became even more important in the last few years as her eyesight dwindled.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at the nursing home for their exceptional care. Their genuine love and kindness showed daily and helped make "Miss Sue's" last chapter in life rewarding.
“Sue” will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the unwavering faith that guided her throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Maloney and Jennifer’s husband, John; son, Alan Wood; grandchildren, Connor, Braden, Zach and Riley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Daniel Wood; her brother, John Wayne Patterson and her parents, Floyd Patterson and Willie Patterson Williams.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner Funeral Home Friday, December 5 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm followed by interment at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs.
Whitley Garner at Rosehaven is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements of Sue Wood.
