

Mr. Childers served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. During his time in the armed forces, he served as a Combat Air Crewman. He then began a career as an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Federal Agent. In 1978, after retiring from the government, he opened National Vehicle Recovery of Georgia, Inc. He graduated from the Atlanta Law School with a Law Degree.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Childers of Douglasville; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Gene and Debbie Childers of Dallas, GA and Steven Edward Childers of Jacksonville, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly Lynn and Scott Swann of Dallas, GA and Juliane Michelle and Adam Zuckerman of Mandeville, LA; brothers and sisters-in-law, James L. and Reba Childers of Loganville, GA and Calvin and Edna Childers of Sandy Springs, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and John Nash of Mableton, GA; grandchildren, Brian Michael Childers, Taylor Lynn Swann, Lauren Kaitlyn Swann, Jennifer Lynn Zuckerman, and Ashley Michelle Zuckerman; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2:30 PM from Sweetwater Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2017, between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 PM.
