Herbert was born in Cedartown, Georgia on November 18, 1929 the son of the late John B. Peterson and Louana Roberson Peterson. Herbert worked for many years as an HVAC mechanic with Rich’s department store. After his retirement he moved to sunny Naples, Florida and purchased the Miracle Apartment complex. He later became the owner of a convenience store where he continued to enjoy being a self- made businessman that just loved to work. Once retirement became a reality he knew he needed a routine so he was up by 6:00 a.m., out of the house by 7:00 a.m. headed to Martins or McDonalds to meet his daily group of friends and then on to bargain hunting. Herbert was a humorous, joyful man that loved people. He was the caregiver for his mother and older sister and he loved to cook and bake cakes. In the past, Christmas time was always special to him and he left nothing undecorated. In his earlier years he was the first in the family to own and operate a video camera and enjoyed recording family memories. Herbert was a dedicated Christian man with a servant’s heart and especially enjoyed time spent with family members.
Herbert was a Veteran having served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Becky Earley (Mark), Douglasville, Georgia, Carol Ellis, Morrow, Georgia, Bill Barrett (Gail), Sautee, Georgia, the late, David Herbert Barrett (Lori), Marilyn Ashley, Danny Peterson, Scott Peterson, other great and great great nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Peterson, Everett Peterson, and sisters, Vivian Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Bowen and Hazel Peterson Barrett.
