

SFC (RET) James Cecil Johnson, Jr., age 77, of Douglasville, Georgia, went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 30th, 2020. He was born on July 10th, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Johnson was a retired SFC for the United States Army. He served 22 and a half years in the military; was a Vietnam Veteran of the 101st Airborne and 1st Calvary Divisions and a drill sergeant at both Ft. Bragg and Ft. Jackson. Furthermore, he also served as a chaplain’s assistant. After leaving the military, he then went on to work for the Austell Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff’s Department, and the Marietta Post Office where he retired after 20 years. Mr. Johnson also Umpired for 30 years and was, at one time, the president of the NGAUA.
He loved Braves baseball and being able to watch his children and grandchildren play ball. A genuine, kind man, he never met a stranger and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to tell a joke or playfully pick on a loved one. Mr. Johnson enjoyed going to watch professional wrestling with his son, Chris, classic car shows, and country music concerts. In his spare time, he would read the newspaper or watch a variety of television shows, including, Two and a Half Men and Law and Order: SVU.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James C. Johnson, Sr. and Christine Parrott Johnson, and his sisters, Ellen and Deborah.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 54 years, Brenda Johnson; his children, Michael Johnson, Karole Johnson, Nicole (Jared) Gunnell, and Chris Johnson; his brother, Glenn (Barbara) Johnson; grandchildren, Tanner (Phoenix), Jordan, Nolan, JD, Camille, and Hope; great-grandchildren, Brentley and Raelynn; and numerous other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will be having private family services on April 2nd, 2020 which will be able to be viewed via live stream on the Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Facebook page at the time of the service. There will be a public memorial service held after the COVID-19 outbreak has been deemed done.
