Jerome was awarded a football scholarship during his high school years, but chose instead to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a career as a skilled diesel mechanic and was also a talented brick mason.
He had a deep passion for jazz music and the arts. Jerome enjoyed drawing, playing chess, and collecting knives. He was also musically gifted and played the violin. In his leisure time, he loved fencing and watching Jeopardy!.
Jerome leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Annette L. Robinson Blakney; his siblings, Cynthia Blakney, Charlotte Blakney, Cheryl Blakney, and Charles Stevenson; along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to VA nurse Jennifer Woodard, the Emory care team, and his close friends Prince, Larry, Toni, and Tony for their care and support.
