

Mr. Leonard Michael Santangelo, age 94, of Douglasville, GA passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was born July 8, 1919 in Brooklyn New York. He was a Pearl Harbor Veteran in the U.S. Army serving his country for four years. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and he often spoke at local schools reliving the events of Pearl Harbor. Mr. Santangelo retired with more than 30 years as a brewer. He and his wife were foster parents to many children in Bradenton, FL. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader in Deer Park, NY before buying a home and moving to Douglasville, GA in 1996. Upon moving to Douglasville, he became a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church where he actively served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served on the Honor Guard. Mr. Santangelo was a member of the American Legion Post #145 working Bingo on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, served on their council and represented the post in many of the parades in Douglasville. He was also a member of the DAV, Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Santangelo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion Hugo Santangelo; his parents, Salvatore and Giovannina Santangelo; brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Louis; and sisters, Jean, Rose, and Marie.
He is survived by his sons, Steven Santangelo and Leonard Santangelo; daughter, Mary Ann Propper and husband Glenn; grandchildren, Virginia Propper, Angela Propper and Alan Propper; Vanessa Santangelo, Jennifer Santangelo, Marybeth Santangelo, Jason Santangelo, and Heather Santangelo; two great-grandchildren, Xavier Propper and Colton Propper; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM, also Friday, May 23, 2014 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Father Cong Nguyen officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
