Michael Klyne Motes, age 71, of Roopville, Georgia, formerly of Douglasville, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023. Mike was born June 15, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised in Douglas County and attended Mount Carmel Elementary, Douglas County Junior High and was a 1970 Graduate of Douglas County High School. Mike was born to parents of the “Greatest Generation”. They instilled values and hard work ethics in Mike that carried over to his last day on this Earth. In high school, he demonstrated leadership in being the Drum Major of the DCHS Tiger Band for four years. He was a graduate of the Joint Apprentice Training Trust and was a member of UA Local Union 72 Plumbers, Steamfitters and HVACR Technicians. After retiring from Local 72 in 2013, he began working as Construction Superintendent for Titleist Building Systems in Douglasville, Georgia in 2017. He served his community by working as a poll worker during elections for several years after his retirement. Mike was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His faith was evident in every aspect of his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and there wasn’t a task that he couldn’t handle. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Mike was a member of Bethel East Baptist Church in Woodland, Alabama and was an ordained deacon at Campbellton Baptist Church in Fairburn, Georgia.
Preceding him in death are his son, Steven Michael Motes; father, Pell Edwards Motes; mother, Lou Metcalf Motes; brother, Anthony Lanier Motes; and sister, Ellen Motes Maxwell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 52 years, Diane McIntosh Motes; daughters, Staci Motes Lawrence (Christian) and Betsy Amelia Craig (Chuck); daughter-in-law, Connie Combs Motes; grandchildren, Mason Lane Lawrence, Mallory Abbigale Lawrence, Magan Emerson Lawrence, Manning McIntosh Lawrence, Emily Smith and Canaan Day; sisters, Pella Gibson, Teresa Moss (Leon), and Dale Spruill (Larry); as well as numerous other family members and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Bethel East Baptist Church, 18990 County Rd 87, Woodland, AL 36280 where the church will help build a school at the Grandview Baptist Orphanage located in Monrovia-Liberia West Africa or Brown Bag Buddies. Please designate on your check which organization you would like to donate to.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Monday, October 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Keith Runels officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Douglasville City Cemetery.
