Paul Leroy Taylor, age 86, of Austell, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022. He was born April 19, 1935 in Plainfield, New Jersey. In the mid-50s, his family moved California. Paul attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College earning an AA degree. His passion was track and he was a member of the track team during college. In the late 50s, Paul returned to New Jersey for a visit. He accepted a position to work at E. J. Korvette’s in Plainfield, New Jersey where he met Catherine Epps. They married in 1960, relocated back to Los Angeles, California and gave birth to daughter, Cynthia in 1961. In California, Paul worked at Zody’s Department Store. In the late 60s or early 70s, he joined partnership with Roy Dixon, where they started a franchise of Dixon Burgers. In his later years, Paul worked as a Custodian at Los Angeles County Sylmar Juvenile Detention Center, retiring in the 90s. After retirement, Paul moved to Georgia, living in Cobb County and working as a greeter at Wal-Mart for a number of years. Returning to his passion for track in his earlier years, Paul participated in the Georgia Golden Olympics, where he medaled in track, shot put and javelin.
Preceding Paul in death were his beloved wife, Brenda Taylor; his parents, Gerald and Gabrielle (Jackson) Taylor; brother, Gerald Taylor II; sister, Shirley (Taylor) Presley; and nephew, Gerald Taylor III.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Cynthia Taylor-Sanders and husband, Reginald Thomas; sons, Paul M. Taylor and wife, Taneisha, and Scott Madison; the mother of his daughter, Catherine Taylor; grandchildren, Candace Gamble, Anthony R. Sanders II, Reyna Taylor, Shania Taylor, and Jon Michael Krol; great-grandchildren, Destinee Sanders, Ceikaie Gamble, Makayla Krol, Aliya Drake and Taliya Drake. He also leaves behind a niece, Sarelle Eddins (Darryl); great-nephew, Darryl Eddins, Jr.; great-niece, Sherrina Clark; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Courtyard I-75 North, 2455 Delk Road, Marietta, Georgia 30067. Seating will be limited. Please R.S.V.P. to 661-331-7464.
