Vera Mary Russell

Vera Mary Russell, age 95, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, March 6, 2023. She was born May 4, 1927 in New York, New York. A devoted wife to her beloved late husband and a loving mother, Vera was family oriented. She loved traveling with her husband. Vera was a character – to know her was to love her. She was an avid reader, and a big fan of James Patterson and Danielle Steel books. She loved gardening of all plants and flowers and enjoyed shopping. Vera had a Chihuahua/Pinscher Nike for many years that was the love of her life.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, James Russell; her parents, Arthur and Florence (Zabriskie) Nickerson; brothers, Arthur Nickerson and Edward Gray; and a son, Walter Johnson, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Edith Gallmon and Adrian Alston; grandchildren, David Gallmon, Veronica Harvey, Alicia Gallmon, Erika Sims, Michael Alston and Jermaine Alston; great-grandchildren, Brittany Jefferson, Phylicia Gallmon, Monica Gallmon, David Gallmon II, Robert Harvey, Ashley Sims, Alia Alston, Jae Alston, Jace Lee and Jaylen Jackson; great-great-grandchildren, River Smith, Morgan Jefferson, Cameron Jefferson, Rori Jefferson, Kennedi Harvey, and new-born great-great-granddaughter, Trinity; as well as many other extended family and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be Monday, March 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel.
