

Born June 20, 1916 in DuBois he was the son of the late Clarence Edward and Stella Pearl Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer married Amelia Ruth Rockey in December of 1951. They lived in Brockway until the time of her death in 1983. He later married Mae Frances Shaffer in January of 1985. They lived in Falls Creek until the time of her death in 2000.
Mr. Shaffer joined the United States Army in May of 1942, served in the European Theater during World War II, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 1945. While in the service, Mr. Shaffer served as a railway shop engineer, completed military police basic training and attended criminal investigation school, was qualified as an expert rifleman and earned a World War II Victory Ribbon.
Mr. Shaffer was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended St. Tobias Catholic Church in Brockway and St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Falls Creek.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and painting.
Mr. Shaffer was a lifelong resident of the greater DuBois area; DuBois, Brockway, Salem and Treasure Lake. He is a direct descendant of the first Europeans who settled in northwest Clearfield County and founded what is now DuBois.
Mr. Shaffer was employed early in life in the timber industry in Forest County. Later, he was a machinist with Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, an installer with Zephyr Awning Company in DuBois, a machine operator with Paris Company in Brockway and with Mitchell Machine Company in Dubois, where he retired in 1983. He was a 1934 graduate of the DuBois High School.
Mr. Shaffer is survived by a son: David C. Shaffer and his wife Eve Evans of Philipsburg, and a granddaughter, Nicole Shaffer of Williamsburg, VA.
Two step-daughters also survive him, Jerri Moline and her husband Robert of Treasure Lake and Kathy Radaker and her husband David also of Treasure Lake.
Also surviving are 7 brothers and sisiters all living in the greater DuBois area; Iva Pearl Gelnett, Alice Mae Munn, Betty Belle Bundy, Clarence Henry Shaffer, Joyce Marie Grant, Nina Simbek and Carol Ann Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his first wife Amelia in 1983; his second wife, Mae in 2000; three brothers; Allen Edward Shaffer in 2009 , Glen Franklin Shaffer in 2000and Harry Elsworth Shaffer in 2005; two sisters, Olive Louella Shaffer in 1915 and Vera Jane Kear in 1999 .
Friends will be received from 7:00 to 9:00pm Sunday, September 19, 2010 and 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm Monday, September 20, 2010 at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc., 142 West Long Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801 with full military honors accorded at 7:00pm by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. A Scriptural Wake service will also be held Monday at the funeral home at 8:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 9:30am on Tuesday at St. Tobias Catholic Church, 1100 Hewitt St., Brockway, PA 15824 with Msgr. Charles A. Kaza as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Tobias Cemetery, Brockway.
