Daniel W. Kopp was called home to be with our Lord on his 65th birthday, July 7, 2023. He was born in Dayton, Ohio to Rev. Clarence A. and Virginia Kopp. This August he would have celebrated 43 years of marriage with his adored wife, Jane A. Kopp. Preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Corbin Jeht Hiser. Dan is survived by his wife, son Jeremy Kopp, daughter and son-in-law Brannyn and Tim Hiser, four precious grandchildren, Owen, Everett, Colton and Emma Hiser, sisters Debra (Ron) Lefton, Denise Walters (Craig Matis), brother Dale (Kim) Kopp, and many nieces and nephews.
Dan knew at a young age the Lord was calling him into a life of ministry. He had the privilege of serving with his Father at Redeemer United Brethren Church, in Columbus, Ohio, as Associate and Youth Pastor for his first 3 years of ministry. Some of his cherished memories include coaching the Bible Quiz Team and singing with the Sonshine Singers Choir, and tenor in The Sonlight Quartet. During this time, he also served as a Director of Campus Life ministry, a branch of Youth For Christ. Dan answered the call to plant First Love Community Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio in the 1983. For 15 years, he faithfully pastored this beloved congregation until answering the call to plant NorthPointe Community Church in Lewis Center, Ohio in 1998. He served as Lead Pastor at NPCC where he again created lifelong friends and impacted numerous lives until his retirement in 2017. During his 37 years of Pastoring, there was no greater joy for him than serving and shepherding God’s people and seeing the Kingdom of God grow through countless changed lives. He continued to serve others beyond his retirement by assisting seniors to secure their final expense benefits for their families.
There was no bigger Ohio State fan than Dan Kopp. His favorite line was, “I bleed scarlet, and I’m turning gray.” He attended as many games, bowl games and championships as possible, and through the blessing of DVR he relived the best Ohio State Football moments frequently. Dan even showed how much he could love by welcoming a Michigan fan with open arms into the family through his beloved son-in-law.
Dan’s love for his family was unmatched. He intentionally made every moment memorable and creatively special. He most loved to plan Friday night date nights with Jane, enjoyed movies and conversations about film with Jeremy, anxiously awaited Sunday gamedays with Brannyn and family, and enjoyed vacationing in the mountains of Virginia and Disney World. He was infamous for his love for Christmas, giving big-bear hugs, never lacking a good dad joke, giving “power pills” to the grandkids and creating the most memorable “hot and cold” scavenger hunts for them.
Dan lived to serve the Lord, serve his family, and serve everyone he met. His legacy will continue to live on through his family and those touched by his life.
1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.”
