Frank “Rags” Ragano, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on September 7, 1928, to the late Joseph and Genevieve Ragano. Rags grew up with his late brother Patrick in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania —a place that shaped both his values and his lifelong love of the city and its teams.
Rags received his early education at St. Mary’s of the Mount, earned his bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University, and later completed his MBA at Syracuse University. In 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, after completing Officer Candidate School he would have a military career that would span three decades.
He served with distinction in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam. A proud member of the Ordnance Branch, he was inducted into the Ordnance Hall of Fame in 1998 and previously awarded Project Manager of the Year. He retired honorably as a Major General.
Following his military service, Rags continued to lead and serve, spending 20 years in civilian life as the CEO of two successful defense contracting companies—bringing the same integrity, discipline, and vision that defined his military career.
Above all else, Rags was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather (lovingly known as Papa Gano), and family man. His greatest joy came from time spent with those he loved. He was also a lifelong sports enthusiast being an avid golfer, fiercely competitive racquetball player and a loyal Pittsburgh fan, cheering on the Pirates, Penguins, and especially his Steelers.
Rags is survived by his beloved wife, Myra; his children, Joseph Ragano (Marcie), Christina Ragano Wilson (Jack), David Ragano (Linda), John Ragano (Stefanie), Richard McGovern (Starlet), and Holly Barber (Ralph Barber deceased); his 17 cherished grandchildren to include 2 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Brigid of Kildare Church, 7179 Avery Road Dublin, Ohio 43017, on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow the Mass. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
