Pam was born July 31, 1945, in Fulton, New York, to Herbert and Martha Knowlton. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio when she was a child, and she graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1963 where she was a majorette and four-year member of the marching band. She went on to the University of Toledo where she earned a degree in business in 1966, and later earned a diploma in Theological Studies from Virginia Theological Seminary.
She married John R. Johanssen on May 12, 1984 – a marriage she described as “the ride of her life.” During their 40 years together, they served many churches in Ohio, Wisconsin and Colorado, and enjoyed traveling the world with friends and family.
Pam held many jobs and volunteer positions throughout her life, including Communications Director for the Association of Professors of Gynecology & Obstetrics (APGO), from which she retired in 2009 after 21 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and an active participant in service and outreach programs. This included roles as president, vice president and secretary of Episcopal Church Women and a delegate to Church Women United. She also taught Sunday School and First Communion classes, edited church newsletters, and volunteered on numerous committees.
Among her many hobbies were painting watercolors, writing poetry, traveling, decorating her home, and spending time with her nine beloved grandchildren. A summer highlight was always the highly anticipated “Nanny Camp” for her grandchildren, complete with themed days, crafts, adventures to places they had never been, and making many wonderful memories.
Pam is survived by her husband, John; sons, Todd Bradley, Timothy (Tricia) Bradley, John (Sarah) Johanssen, and Ryan (Kelly) Johanssen; sisters, Jacqueline Knepper and Stephanie Knowlton; sister-in-law, Janet Knowlton; her grandchildren, Burke, Luke, Olivia, Owen, Macie, Conner, Addison, Katelyn, and Ella; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Martha, and her brother, Christopher.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dublin, Ohio. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. A reception at the church will take place afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Garden for All community garden in New Albany, Ohio.
We are deeply grateful for the love and support of our family, friends, and church community during this difficult time. Your faith and kindness have been a great source of strength.
