Patricia Ann Bender

Patricia Ann Bender, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026 at the Ganzhorn Suites in Powell, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 31st, 1936 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late James and Blanche (Barron) Troppoli. She is preceded in death by her husband, John G. Bender, with whom she built a beautiful life during their 52 year marriage.

An only child, Patricia delighted in giving her children siblings and was a very devoted mother, creating many joyous moments that live on for eternity. Having earned an Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in English, she raised well-read children with excellent grammar whether they liked it or not.

A resident of Forest Hills Borough in Pittsburgh, Pa. for many years, Patricia dedicated her life to service. She was first recognized for her volunteerism by the Forest Hills Borough in 1976 and continued to serve her community in roles at various organizations such as the Center for Victims of Violent Crime and Group for Recycling in Pittsburgh. Her distinguished level of service to her community culminated at the Squirrel Hill Library of Pittsburgh where her love of reading books enabled her to shine brightly.

Patricia was a talented, creative person, who sewed, crocheted, knitted, and needlepointed true art. The treasures she created were always for someone other than herself, true to form, and Patrica was also an amazing culinary genius.

Patricia’s deep caring for the well-being of others and great sense of humor made her very popular as she aged, and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew her and those who cared for her.

She is survived by her children, David (Cheryl Focht) Bender, Barbara Bender Pietro and Mary Knight; grandchildren, Jeremy and Maya Focht, Alexander and Nicholas Pietro, and Scott Knight, and many, many friends. A private funeral mass will be held at a future date in Columbus, OH.

Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Verona PA .
