A devoted friend, father and husband who loved to share a laugh with many lifelong friends and his massive family. Peter Hopkins, 59, of Dublin, Ohio, died December 7, 2025. Pete was born in Miami, Florida in 1966, the fifth of John and Leona Mae Hopkins’s seven children. After a short stay in Jackson, NJ, the Hopkins family moved to what Pete considered his hometown, Bayhead, NJ. Pete grew up playing a variety of sports, his favorites being baseball and soccer. A huge fan of the beach, he spent as much time there as possible with his brother, Danny and his friends. In high school at Point Pleasant Beach, Pete met his best friends George Jones, Paul Grove, Amy Struncius, and Alice Murphy, among many other friends. They got into all sorts of trouble before heading off to school. Pete would go on to work his way through college at Temple University, where he fell in love with Philadelphia, cheese steaks and The Phillies.
In 1992, Pete made his way to Columbus, OH, joining George and Paul. In Columbus, he met his wife, Jodi. Within just two years, Pete earned his masters degree at The Ohio State University, got married, and had his first son, Cullen. Over the course of the next six years, two more boys joined the family, Jack and Brendan. In 2002, Pete and his family moved to Dublin, Ohio where he helped to raise his boys and start his company, Barnegat Financial. Through soccer and baseball coaching, hard work, golfing with his friends and laughing with his family and neighbors, he established himself as the epitome of warmth and fun. He loved music, especially Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen, as well as movies and the family cat, Cooper, who he held in his arms every chance he could get. Deep in his heart, he carried the sunshine and the waves of the beach that he grew up with, and shared it with all of those around him.
Pete was preceded in death by parents John and Leona Mae, and is survived by wife Jodi, sons Cullen, Jack and Brendan, siblings Laurie, Cindy (Jason), John (Gwen), Karen, Danny (Linica), and Jennifer (John) as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
