

Robert C. Rankin, 93, of Dublin Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on February 17th and has gone home to be with The Lord. Robert was born January 28, 1929, in Evansville, Indiana and moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1935. He was a graduate of North High School in 1946, The Ohio State University in 1951, and a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association. He was a member of the TKE fraternity. He served in the United States Navy for two years on a mine sweeper in the Mediterranean from 1952-1954. He married Darlene Wagner Rankin on May 1, 1955. Robert sold real estate for several years and in 1955 founded Rankin-Thoman Builders with partner Harry Thoman Jr., a TKE fraternity brother. They built many homes, apartments, and condominiums in the northwest region of Columbus and suburban areas. Robert was active in the Building Industry Association, the BIA, became a local chapter president, president of the of the Ohio Home Builders Association and Hall of Fame recipient. He was also a life Director in the National Home Builders Association. Robert, Bob to his family and friends, also helped found and played in the BIA Golf League to the age of eighty-six and the BIA Bowling League. He loved to play bridge and traveled the world with his wife Darlene of 66 years. Bob saw over 430 OSU football games at home and many games on the road. He was an avid OSU Marching Band devotee and never ceased to be awed by their marching and playing capabilities. He was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church for 58 years and donated 205 pints of blood. He loved God, his family, and his country. Most of all, he was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His love, wisdom, knowledge, generosity, and selflessness were shared with all who knew him. His family and relationship with Christ were his prized possessions. His life demonstrated his deep Faith in Christ. He is preceded in death by his son Dan and survived by his wife Darlene Rankin, son Matt Rankin, daughters Christine and Kim Rankin, daughter in law Penny Rankin, granddaughters Chelsea Rankin Ulmer (Dave), Kacie Rankin and Courtney DePaso, grandson Chase DePaso, great grandchildren Carson DePaso, Kristopher Rankin, and Ryder DePaso, all of whom loved him deeply. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his physicians, Friendship at Home, Right at Home and Ohio Health Hospice for their superb care. His Celebration of Life Service will be held at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43220 at 11:00 a.m. on March 4th, Pastor Paul Ulring officiating. Visitation and reception immediately after. Private interment Union Cemetery.
