Roberta lost her mother at the age of two, and at a young age learned to be independent, while being raised by her father and maternal grandmother. She once spoke of riding the subway as a child with her younger sister or walking to the corner candy store at age eight.
Roberta earned a degree in Marketing from New York University and began work in Advertising. She married in 1953 and soon began raising a family. In 1959, the family moved to the DC/Maryland area where she had a 30-year career as a bookkeeper.
Roberta enjoyed family and friends and instilled in her children the value of education at an early age. She loved to sew and also enjoyed crossword puzzles, Caribbean cruises, Mah Jongg, movies, and the theater. She loved to cook, plan parties and enjoyed preparing large Thanksgiving meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed fashion and bright colors, and until her last years, made certain that her hair, nails, and makeup were done to perfection.
Roberta lived a full life and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Norman Cohen, and her sister Elaine Schwartz. She leaves behind two children, Alan (Sheree) Cohen of Hilliard, OH and Karen McAllister of Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Brian (Erica) Cohen, Dr. Nicole McAllister, and, Shana Morris; and four great- grandchildren, Camden Cohen and Connor, Kinsey, and, Kaydee Morris.
