If you ever met William “Bill” Zahn, you remembered him. He was a loud, loving and larger than life man who could turn any stranger into a friend. A good and faithful servant to his Lord, he was called home on June 5, 2025 — his 81st birthday.
Born in Marion, Ohio, Bill proudly served as an MP in the U.S. Air Force. But above all his roles in life, he was most proud of being a teacher and debate coach, where he inspired generations of students in Newark and Dublin, Ohio, to think critically and speak boldly.
He had a profound love for music, especially gospel, and was a spirited saxophone player. He had a soft spot for animals and a lifelong love for the beach, reflecting his gentle nature and appreciation for life’s simple gifts. He valued relationships deeply and was a loyal and generous friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Thelma Zahn, and his brother, Jack Zahn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Cathy Zahn; daughters Allison Tripodi (Mike) and Suzanne Chod (Mark); grandchildren Mikey, Gracie, Berkley and Collins; sister Janet Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, OH 43017. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, with burial to follow at Dublin Cemetery.
Bill lived boldly and bravely. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center, 700 Jasonway Avenue, Columbus OH.
