Clarence Schmidt

Clarence was born in Swanville, MN on August 20, 1919 to Ernest and Bertha (Schlenz) Schmidt. He grew up and attended schools in Swanville before attending diesel mechanic classes at Dunwoody College. He later moved to Duluth and worked at several area businesses. He was drafted into the Army and served his country for a couple of years before being honorably discharged. Clarence was united in marriage to Mary Jane Berg on August 19, 1944. He later became a police officer and served the city of Duluth for many years. Clarence enjoyed cars, small engine repair as well as the many family gatherings at the Cabin on Barrs Lake. He was a member of the Police Retirement Association and a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church.

He is preceded in death by his son David and eight, brothers and sisters.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane “Toody”; daughter, Judy (Gary) Genovese of Duluth; grandchildren, Joseph Dean (Nancy Peterson) Genovese of New Ulm, MN, Gina Genovese of Los Angeles, CA, Ben (Kristin) Genovese of Austin, TX, Josh (Jessica) Schmidt of Minneapolis, MN as well as many other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church 1814 N.51st Ave. E. Duluth. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
