

She was born January 9, 1911 in Two Harbors to Erik and Emelie Peterson. Edith graduated in 1929 from Two Harbors High School. On June 1, 1935, she married James C. Lockwood. She attended nursing school at St. Luke’s until she had to quit to take care of her ailing father. When they moved to Duluth they joined First United Methodist Church and were active members. For a time Edith worked for Gold Bond Stamps and later at the Duluth Visitors Bureau. She also did volunteer work at St. Luke’s. Everyone who met Edith enjoyed her wit and sense of humor. Her home was a magnet, it was open to all.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1972; a son, John; grandson, Paul; her parents; brothers, Sig and Carl “Bill”; her sister, Minnie; and daughter-in-law, Ann.
She is survived by her sons, James, of Sebring, FL, David (Mary), of Arden Hills, MN, Bruce (Cheryl), of Duluth and daughter Mary (David) Kurtz of Biwabik, MN; 12 grandchildren, J. Einer Lockwood, David (Karmen) Lockwood, Lisa Lockwood, Mark (Amy) Lockwood, Maria Lockwood, K.C. (Nicole) Lockwood, Wendy (Chris) Nyberg, Nadine (Patrick) Miller, Anita (David) Chirico, Joel Lockwood, Scott (J.J.) Kurtz and Michelle (Chad) Lexvold; a step-grandson, Dan (Cindy) Urshan; 18 great-grandchildren, Troy, Brent, Amie, Jake, Stephie, Elijah, Tabitha, Joanna, Josiah, Chloe, Casey, Alisha, Colt, Samantha, Benjamin, Belle, Nicholas and Ryan; two step-great-grandchildren, Andrea and Jordan; two special daughters-in-law, Janet Lockwood, of Proctor and Marilyn Lehman, of WI. Edith was a special mother and grandmother to several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
